MEDIA RELEASE
April 26th 2010
Tranzasia and Tuapaerangi Ltd release details of its housing solutions for people displaced by the Christchurch Earthquake.
Tranzasia Corporation and its partner company Tuapaerangi Ltd firmly believe that temporary or emergency housing should be of a standard and design quality that gives people hope for the future. The temporary housing designed by our New Zealand architectural team consists of attractive houses of around 100 sq metres with private yards and reasonably spacious living areas. Tranzasia is able to keep costs to a minimum by having the housing modules constructed in China in an ISO 9001 mega-factory that is involved in some of the largest building projects on the planet including the Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium, the Shanghai World Financial Tower and Beijing Airport. Transported to New Zealand our houses are assembled on site using a large local workforce of registered builders and craftsmen.
The houses will all be leased to the Department of Building and Housing at rates equivalent to market rentals thus reducing the need for major capital investment at a time when attention needs to be paid to the rebuilding of the city. They are built of permanent materials, have a nine year guarantee against workmanship or structural defects and have a projected lifespan of fifty plus years.
“Just because people have to use temporary housing does not mean that they have to be condemned to low quality, ghetto like environments,” says Gerry Walmisley, Director of Tranzasia Corporation, “our houses are designed to be as close to people’s ‘normal’ expectations and to reduce some of the trauma associated with having to leave one’s own home.”
After use, the houses will be easily relocated and the group plans to on-sell them for entry level housing, baches or to donate them at cost to areas of New Zealand that are significantly disadvantaged.
